Richmond Floorball Showcase Draws 51 Players from Three States, Expands Local Participation in RVA

Three-day event welcomed visiting clubs, introduced new players to the sport, and reinforced Richmond’s growing role in regional floorball

RICHMOND, Va. — March 18, 2026 — Richmond Floorball Club (RFC) concluded its first-ever Richmond Floorball Showcase this past weekend at the RCSSC Annex, bringing together 51 players from three states through a mix of beginner open play and tournament competition designed to grow the sport locally. NYC Floorball won the tournament championship, with Pittsburgh finishing second. Richmond entered three teams, which finished third, fourth, and fifth. For RFC, the Showcase was built to do more than produce standings.

The three-day format was designed to lower barriers for new players, create meaningful court time for local participants, and strengthen Richmond’s role as a welcoming host city for floorball in the Mid-Atlantic. “This weekend gave us exactly what we hoped it would — new people stepping onto the court, visiting clubs making the trip to Richmond, and a local community that keeps getting stronger each time we do this,” said Nick Baldaino, President of Richmond Floorball Club. That goal was reflected in the event’s local turnout.

Of the 51 participants who engaged with RFC over the weekend, 37 were from the Richmond area. Among those local participants, 13 were new to RFC events, and 6 picked up a floorball stick for the first time. “I came in not knowing exactly what to expect, and by the end of the weekend it felt like something I wanted to come back to,” said one participant. “That says a lot about the people who were there, and the environment Richmond created.” The Showcase opened with beginner-friendly Friday play, continued with Saturday tournament action, and concluded Sunday with playoffs followed by open gym. The structure allowed first-time and newer players to enter the sport in a more accessible environment while still giving returning players and visiting clubs a competitive weekend on the court.

RFC also drew positive support from beyond the playing surface, with local media, event partners, and community supporters helping raise awareness ahead of the weekend. That outside attention helped introduce more people in the Richmond area to the sport and contributed to strong local participation across all three days. Visiting clubs NYC Floorball and Pittsburgh Forge both made the trip to Richmond for the event, joining three local Richmond teams for a five-team field. Their participation helped create a competitive atmosphere while reinforcing the collaborative relationships that continue to shape floorball’s growth along the East Coast.

The Richmond Floorball Showcase was launched as a complementary event to the Atlantic Floorball Open. While the Atlantic Open serves as Richmond’s larger regional summer competition, the Showcase was designed as a more local-facing activation focused on entry points, development, and community growth. Floorball is a fast-paced indoor sport played in more than 80 countries worldwide. Richmond Floorball Club is dedicated to growing the sport across Central Virginia through leagues, tournaments, clinics, and open play.
