The League Came First. The Record Caught Up.
River City floorball did not begin in Fall 2023.
The useful record does.
The surviving championship history reaches back to Summer 2022, which is enough to establish that people were already playing, winning things and presumably arguing about what counted long before anyone assembled a proper archive. Earlier history may exist. The Desk has no intention of improving it through imagination.
From Fall 2023 forward, matters become considerably more useful.
Scores survive. Standings can be rebuilt. Teams return. Others disappear. Names change, occasionally with enough enthusiasm to require an identity register. Postseason results begin connecting one season to another. What looked at the time like another Wednesday recreational league eventually accumulates something recreational leagues rarely bother to preserve: context.
That matters because a result changes once it has a past.
A team winning again is different from a team winning once. A playoff rematch carries something the first meeting did not. A club that keeps appearing near the top becomes a standard. One that keeps returning from the bottom becomes interesting for an entirely different reason. By the time twelve completed seasons sit beside one another, coincidence has begun losing territory to pattern.
There are 378 regular-season games in the detailed archive through Summer 2026. That is more than enough material to start several arguments and nowhere near enough justification to have all of them here.
So we will not.
The champions, dominant teams, wasted regular seasons, recurring postseason opponents, statistical outliers and other evidence that recreational athletes are perfectly capable of producing unnecessarily complicated sporting history can wait for their proper chapters.
For now, the important fact is simpler.
River City had already built a league. The archive eventually caught up with it.
Fall 2023 is where the surviving record becomes detailed enough to stop introducing the subject and start covering it.
Next: Fall 2023.
